🔹 PART 1: The Power of Proximity

You Become Who You're With: Why Proximity Matters More Than You Think.

“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” – Proverbs 13:20

We like to think we’re fully in control of our beliefs, values, and direction. But in truth, the people we allow closest to us shape us more than we realize. Not just through what they say—but through who they are.

The reality is: proximity is power.
We soak in the fears, beliefs, and habits of those around us—whether we notice it or not.

When you spend consistent time with people who are living beneath their calling, you’ll be subtly trained to believe that’s acceptable.

Recently, I heard renowned Global Business Strategist, Bill Walsh speak. He had an interesting take on how to handle people like this. He said, in fact, there are some of our contacts in our phone we need to go and delete!

When your circle is made of people who doubt, complain, coast, or compare, you’ll begin to mirror that mindset. It’s not malicious—it’s just math. Repetition rewires.

But here’s the good news: the opposite is also true.

When your circle is full of people who speak life, chase God’s voice, and fight for their divine purpose—you’ll rise. Not because they push you—but because they remind you who you are. They pull you along. Because they show you what’s possible. Because they normalize obedience, discipline, and risk.

You need people who:

  • Call you up, not just out.
  • Speak truth even when you don’t want to hear it.
  • Stay when it’s messy, but still won’t let you stay stuck.
  • Be a friend when times are the worst, not just when it's great.

Ask yourself:

  • Who has your ear on your worst days?
  • Do they shrink your vision or stretch your faith?
  • Are they aligned with where God is taking you?

Because your future is directly tied to who you’re doing life with now.

Choose your circle like your calling depends on it—because it does.
