When Your Circle Makes You Drift: Spotting Subtle Saboteurs

Not all derailments happen in a storm. Some come with a smile and a “just being honest” conversation.

Or am I the only one? Mic test, 1 2 3

Sometimes, the people closest to us slowly pull us off course—not by attacking our calling but by quietly questioning it.
They don’t need to say “you can’t.”
They just need to say “are you sure?” at just the wrong moment.

I'm not talking about those people in your life who are your straight-shooters and always have your best interests at heart.

We’ve all got that one friend or family member who means well, they do, but their words sow much more fear than faith.
They push comfort over courage. Safety over risk.
Caution over conviction. Contentment over adventure.
And doubt, disguised as “wisdom.”

"Have you really given this some thought?" They ask.

They sow seeds of doubt from their own place of lost dreams. It's often not about you at all. You dare to listen and in faith, seize the moment God is calling you into. They gave up on that long ago.

Here’s the thing: the enemy loves to use subtle sabotage.
He doesn’t need you to necessarily fall—he just needs you to drift.
One compromise. One delay. One “maybe later.”

Famous. Last. Words.

One decision ...to not trust God at His word.

Just get you to take your eyes off of the ball.

So,

If the voices around you:

  • Keep you second-guessing what God clearly told you
  • Talk you out of bold steps of obedience
  • Or “advise” you to just lower the bar…
  • Or maybe just take a 'lowered expectations" position

…it’s time to evaluate whether they should be this close to your mission. (remember in Part 1 where I said that Business Strategist Bill Walsh says it might be time to delete some phone contacts?)

This doesn’t mean you cut people off in bitterness.

It means you guard your assignment. Ok, so maybe you don't delete the contact. :)

But, it might be time to keep at arm's length those "Dream Vampires". The ones that suck the very energy out of other people's dreams and aspirations.

If not today, then when will you hold the call of God on your life as sacred—and treat the circle that speaks into it with reverence?Because it IS.

Don’t normalize the influence of drifters and doubters.

Don't settle for a life of apathy disguised as "just being careful"
You’re not called to live safe. Jesus never promised us that.
You’re called to live sent.

Happy to serve.
